BTAR Anita Levels Talks About Her Trip To New Orleans
As we wrap up Women’s History Month, I thought it would be great to share about my trip home to New Orleans. While there, I visit loved ones’ graves at Providence Memorial Cemetery, which also happens to be the memorial site of the great, Mahalia Jackson (October 26, 1911 – January 27, 1972).
It was a perfect day, a sunny southern day. About 58 degrees, cotton ball clouds in the sky and you could see Mardi Gras floats preparing for the parades scheduled that day. The air was crisp, clean and all I could hear was Sister Mahalia Jackson’s voice singing the lyrics to that great gospel song, “How I got over, my soul looks back and wonders, how I got over.”
