Learn About the Black American Music Timeline By Anita Levels
Let me introduce you to the great Ethnomusicologist, Dr. Portia Maultsby. She and a team of scholars worked with Carnegie Hall in New York to create the Black American Music Timeline which is now fully interactive and goes all the way back to the 1600s. The timeline covers a multitude of genres and movements that make music what it is today. You can even listen to live music clips of each genre.
Learn more about Dr. Portia Maultsby and how this project came to be by reading the article “The Scholars Who Charted Black Musics’ Timeline” here. Make sure to dive into the interactive timeline as well! You can find it here.
