Meet the BTARs: “Elevate the Underground” with Clara Kent
For three years, “More Bounce with Clara Kent” has been celebrating music from across the African Diaspora, playing a wide range of genres and artists, from Fela Kuti and Jimi Hendrix to Beyoncé and Naomi Sharon, bridging gaps between generations and cultures worldwide.
From 6 to 8 p.m., her show celebrates the beauty and history of Black music and musicians from around the globe and uplifts emerging artists with “Elevate the Underground.” This segment has brought rising stars new opportunities and opened doors for them to expand their artistry, communities, and reach among listeners seeking their talent.
After three beautiful years of elevating, it’s now time to expand. More Bounce is transforming “Elevate the Underground” into a monthly feature highlighting Pittsburgh musicians from the Black community who are making waves and breaking barriers in the music scene.
Building Bridges
As part of their Mind the Gap Fellowship, SLB Radio supports artist Aryana Kapree, @aryanakapree, who recently shadowed Clara for the day at WYEP studios in the Southside. During her visit, Clara and Aryana discussed issues facing artists in the music industry, Pittsburgh’s music ecosystem, and interacted with Clara’s guest artist for the May 2026 “Elevate the Underground” series.
SLB’s Mind the Gap Fellowship is a program for recent high school graduates who are still considering their post-graduation options. Fellows will spend a year working with SLB Radio building new skills, exploring career possibilities, and connecting with other young adults who also find themselves in between high school and whatever comes next.
Elevating Pittsburgh Artists
The mission of “Elevate the Underground” is to continue giving voice to the rising talent of Black communities in Pittsburgh and to build bonds between these remarkable musicians and music lovers. Clara hopes to keep building and growing this segment into a visual platform, allowing these artists to interact directly with the community and form lasting bonds that nurture both Pittsburgh’s music scene and the artists.
