Music’s Impact on US Olympic Athletes
With the 2022 Winter Olympics still underway, it is a great time for those of us who enjoy watching sports. But what role does music have in the Olympics? Well, I would say a rather important one.
One of the most well-known US athletes, Nathan Chen had an entire segment where he talked about how important music is to him as a way to escape from the pressures of being an Olympic athlete, and by also helping him become a better figure skater. Nathan explains that a big part of figure skating is being able to understand and interpret the music that you are skating to. The better a skater can showcase that artistry, the better athlete they are. Nathan also mentioned how he plays piano and guitar in his free time. Click here to watch his entire video.
Like Nathan, US skier Mikaela Shiffrin also has talked about how she uses music as a tool to keep her in a better mindset during races and competitions. You can see her talk about music’s impact on her life here.
So while you enjoy the rest of the 2022 Winter Olympics, think about the athletes and how music might play a role in how they got there.
