Four UniSound Organizations Awarded $500 Mini-Grants at Launch event!
UniSound celebrated the launch of its new website on June 27 at the Jeron X. Grayson Community Center. Partnered organizations and guests of UniSound attended the event, and talented young musicians from the YMCA Lighthouse Project and the Youth Chamber Connection shared their talents throughout the evening. The highlight of the evening, however, was the presentation of UniSound’s first mini-grants! Attending organizations were asked to share their favorite moments from the 2018-2019 season in which they saw their work positively impact one or more young people. An esteemed panel of judges, including Mac Howison of Heinz Endowments and Tanika Harris of Act 3 Consulting Partners had the hard task of selecting four winners from the submissions. Ultimately the judges decided to award REWIND Behavior and Simulation Center LLC, The Junior Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, The South Hills Children’s Choir, and Yahweh RYSE one of the four $500 mini-grants. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing the incredible stories submitted by each of these organizations- you won’t want to miss them!
What is UniSound?
Our mission is to create a more accessible, sustainable, and equitable youth music ecosystem in the greater Pittsburgh area through building an alliance of organizations that provide music education and performance opportunities for youth. UniSound is a program of Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras but is ultimately a collaborative project of 43 (and growing!) Pittsburgh area organizations that share a common trait of providing opportunities for children and/or teens to create music out-of-school time.
