Not only does taking music lessons allow one to master an instrument, but additionally taking music lessons provides a wealth of cognitive, emotional, and physical benefits. However, learning music is sometimes difficult and weekly lessons plus instrument costs and repairs can get expensive! So why should you take music lessons?
Taking music lessons affects the way your brain works!
According to this study found in the Journal for Neuroscience, learning music at a young age can affect the way your brain forms connections. similar results can be found with activities like golf, ballet, and chess.
Music helps you learn languages!
This study by Simon Leipold, Carina Klein, and Lutz Jäncke shows the relationship between music and language. It shows learning music not only makes it easier for us to understand and learn languages but also possibly prevents, reduces, and repairs hearing or language impairments!
Music helps you learn math skills!
Music is filled with math. Note values are just fractions and even a time signature looks like a fraction but is something totally different. It’s really fascinating how much intersection there is between music and math.
Music helps build self-esteem and bonds!
Music lessons can provide so many wonderful benefits. Two of the most important things that come from music lessons are increased self-esteem and building meaningful connections with others.
Taking lessons is a great way to build your self-esteem. Music is a great way to watch yourself succeed and grow at a skill you might not have thought you could do before. Almost all of my students see improvements in their musical abilities weekly! Being able to see such growth in a relatively short time is always good for your confidence. Playing music in front of peers, at recitals, and at gigs is also a great way to combat stage fright, and really master your self-confidence.
Most importantly, you form lasting bonds!
Music is an important social aspect, and taking lessons helps you form amazing long-lasting bonds. You have to trust your teacher and you usually form a pretty strong connection together. You also get to know your fellow students pretty well through various activities, recitals, and events. And it’s always fun to jam with a friend or group of friends.
Music lessons are such an amazing experience!
Music lessons are always an incredible experience for both the teachers and students. We have students as young as 6 months old and students 65+. Each lesson is a unique, and different challenge that brings a wealth of benefits along with it. From forming bonds with friends and mentors to learning math and languages in your lessons, there are so many wonderful reasons to take lessons.
